  • Pre-order: Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet - Shadows

Pre-order: Magnus Carlson & The Moon Ray Quintet – Shadows

Magnus Carlson and The Moon Ray Quintet return with their new album Shadows, released by We Jazz Records on 12 December. Carlson is known as the vocalist of Weeping Willows, and The Moon Ray Quintet features members of top Swedish jazz acts Oddjob, Goran Kajfeš Tropiques, La La Lars, etc. Together they deliver inspired vocal jazz versions of some of their favourite music, their arrangements capturing the beauty of each song while bringing something fresh to the table. The Moon Ray Quintet was formed in 2009 around singer Magnus Carlson during a break from the band Weeping Willows, his regular musical habitat. In the artistic vacuum he experienced then, he met jazz musician and producer Goran Kajfeš. Their chance encounter gave birth to a brand new band consisting of a number of highly regarded Swedish jazz musicians. With Goran by his side, Magnus could challenge himself in a jazz setting, digging deep with the band to bring out new shades of all of the compositions played. After being on a break for more than 10 years, the combo of Carlson and The Moon Ray Quintet reunited for sold out shows at the Stockholm club Fasching. Now, they return with a brand new album of 8 new cuts echoing their mutual love of the song.

Out 12.12.2025 on We Jazz Records.
  • Pre-order: Jonah Parzen-Johnson & Lau Nau - A Few We Remember

    Pre-order: Jonah Parzen-Johnson & Lau Nau – A Few We Remember

A Few We Remember is the new album by Jonah Parzen-Johnson and Lau Nau. The recording debut for the new duo of Finnish composer Lau Nau, aka Laura Naukkarinen, and American baritone saxophonist Jonah Parzen-Johnson, it cycles between moments of knotty ambience, whispered melody, and innocent tinkering, as the duo improvises over 8 narrative scores composed by Parzen-Johnson. Jonah Parzen-Johnson & Lau Nau are each prolific and celebrated creators on their own, with 22 albums released between the two of them, but in this fresh conversation, something completely new comes to life. In Laura’s words: “I enjoy recording live takes without overdubs, and this album is exactly that - pure first takes, bubbling creative energy happening in the moment. Jonah’s written stories gave a powerful spark and direction for our improvisations, but the album reminds me of a chemical reaction: a result that is impossible without both of our inputs, and a surprise to each of us.” On the debut single, First Time Viewer, it is almost impossible to tell where Jonah’s fragile baritone saxophone melody begins and where Lau’s live-sampled, processed, and re-synthesized accompaniment ends. As the improvisation develops, a cloud of ethereal fragments forms into a lattice of melody and texture strong enough to support the entire track. We don’t know how this music can sound both delicate and resilient at the same time, but we love it. Out 7.11.2025 on We Jazz Records. Album release show at We Jazz Festival 29.11.!

  • Pre-order: Modem - Interface CD

    Pre-order: Modem – Interface CD

The Helsinki-based synth-pop duo Modem return with their second full-length album, Interface - a sleek, mirror-tiled exploration of identity, illusion, and emotional architecture. Rooted in the cool pulse of minimal synth-pop, the noir haze of '80s soundtracks, and the emotional tension of early Depeche Mode, Interface is both a love letter to the past and a razor-sharp commentary on the present. Gothic glamour, new wave gloss, and fluorescent melancholy all find their place in Modem's sonic universe. Each track acts like a layer in a system - personas flicker, masks glitch, and reality fragments. It's a concept album for the age of curated selves and algorithmic intimacy. Identity isn't a mirror - it's an interface. Track list:
    1. Face2
    2. BS
    3. Ave Maria
    4. Image
    5. Passio
    6. Pagliacci
    7. Cowboy
    8. Paino
    9. Kulta-aika
Out 10.10.2025 on Modem Age Records.
  • Pre-order: Aleksandra Ionowa - Improvisations on the Grand Piano COLOUR

Pre-order: Aleksandra Ionowa – Improvisations on the Grand Piano COLOUR

Aleksandra Ionowa (1899–1980) was a Finnish-Russian artist, mystic, and largely self-taught pianist whose music feels like a transmission from another realm. Her artistic life began in 1946, after what she described as a mystical experience of heavenly union—“Heaven was in me, I was in heaven.” In its wake, she began to draw obsessively, eventually creating thousands of visionary works that she considered guided by the Theosophical Masters. The same experience also led her to start improvising on the piano, shaping music that, for its time, was unusually free and abstract. Recorded on a November day in 1978, when Aleksandra Ionowa was 79 years old, Improvisations on the Grand Piano is a meditative and deeply intuitive album, shaped more by timbre and tone than by melody. Her shimmering playing unfolds like flashes of light through leaves, or sunbeams playing on rippling water: a music of transience and transformation, yet carrying a timeless stillness at its core. To today’s listener, her pentatonic piano stylings might feel kindred to the spiritual intimacy of artists like Laraaji and Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, while remaining wholly her own. Originally self-released on vinyl and cassette, the album is reissued for the first time in co-operation with Ultraääni Records and Puro Recordings. This new edition is available on standard black 180g vinyl and a limited splatter-colored 180g version. The release also includes additional artwork and a newly commissioned essay by Samuli Huttunen, offering historical and spiritual context for her work.
